About the Mission:

The family of U.S. Marine Corps Veteran Patrick "Pat" Atkinson has invited Patriot Guard Riders to participate in his military honors funeral services. Pat passed on 15 February 2026 at the age of 79 surrounded by his family.

At the age of 18, Pat entered the Marine Corps on 10 September 1964 and was trained as a Motor Vehicle Operator (MCMOS-3531). He served his nation with 4 years of active service, including a 12 month tour of duty in Vietnam. Pat's last duty station was at Marine Corps Aircraft Support Group, New River, Jacksonville, North Carolina. He was honorably discharged as Corporal (E-4) on 9 September 1968 with a reserve obligations termination date of 10 August 1970. For his service Pat was awarded, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/ 1 Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ 1960 Device and was elligible to receive a Cold War Era Commemorative Medal. Pat Atkinson was a dedicated Patriot Guard Rider member for 18 years standing for those who stood for us.

Special Information:

PGR will assemble for the briefing. After briefing we will stand a respectful flag line for arriving family and guests for the first two hours of visitation. Dress for the weather and make sure your Marine and American flags are presentable.

Second Stage - Special Information:

After briefing, prayer service and dignified transfer, Patriot Guard Riders will escort Pat and his loving family to Western New York National Cemetery for military honors and interment at 1 pm. Those who do not wish to be in the escort please meet at the cemetery.
