About the Mission:

The family of Korean War Era and Cold War veteran William L. "Bill" Halsted has requested Patriot Guard Riders' participation in honoring his life and service. Mr. Halsted passed away at his home in Conesus, NY on 14 April 2026 at the age of 94.

Mr. Halsted served our nation in the U.S. Navy for 4 years on active duty from 1952-1956. He had 3-1/2 years of sea/foreign service as a Machinist's Mate (MM) on the USS Pittsburgh (CA-72), a Baltimore-class heavy cruiser. During his tour of duty, the ship sailed in the Atlantic, Caribbean, Mediterranean, Pacific and Indian Oceans in support of various Naval Fleet operations. Mr. Halsted achieved the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class (E-6), and received his honorable discharge effective 10 April 1956. He earned the Navy Good Conduct Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal (Europe), National Defense Service Medal, and Cold War Service Commemorative Medal.

Mr. Halsted went on to serve 69 years (Life Member) with the Conesus Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a life member of the Conlon-Mulvaney American Legion Post #1779 in Conesus.

Special Information:

PGR will provide a respectful flag line for arrival of family and guests. The Memorial Service is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM, followed by escort to Arnold Cemetery, Cemetery Road off Elm Street, Hamlet of Conesus (1 block from the church) for interment with military honors.

Please be prepared with a clean 3x5 American or U.S. Navy flag, and dress for the weather. Thank you for devoting your time to help honor the U.S. Navy Korean War Era and Cold War era service, and lifetime firefighting service, of William L. "Bill" Halsted and in support of his proud and loving family.
